The State of Texas Saferiders Program, our partner in the car seat program has approved holding classes on the use and installation of car seats and distribution of car seats beginning in June. These services will be held with a reduced number of classes and with social distancing. Registration for the June classes opens on May 3rd. Thousands of children are seriously injured or die needlessly every year because they are not in a safety seat while riding in a car. If you lack the financial resources to access a car safety seat for your child, you may be eligible for assistance in obtaining a car seat. The Parenting Cottage offers car safety seat classes for all Lubbock County residents and a one time assistance program for car seats to qualified parents.
- Be the parent, primary caregiver or legal guardian
- Someone in the household must a vehicle
- Car must have working lap and shoulder belts
- Be in financial need of a seat
In cooperation with the State of Texas Safe Riders programs, parents can access convertible safety seats and booster seats following the completion of a short class on car seat safety.
Classes are held several times monthly -both day and evening classes- class size is limited.
Registration is required before attending. A pregnant woman is allowed to attend a class and is eligible for a seat if she is in her last trimester (at least 7 months pregnant). You will need your child’s height & weight when calling to register for the classes. Classes fill quickly so call early.
